Also known as Five Flavour Fruit as the purple-red fruit are described as having five tastes, bitter, pungent, salty, sour and sweet. Fruit are edible and have been used as traditional medicine in China and Russia for many generations. They are best grown in partial shade where soils are suitably moist and free-draining.
