Punica granatum - Pomegranate -Pot

These are multi-stemmed, deciduous shrubs with an upright, spreading growth habit. Foliage is a bright, mid-green colour and tinged with bronze on new growth, then becoming yellow in autumn. Produces vibrant scarlet-orange flowers throuhout the summer and resembling crepe paper. These are then followed by the round, reddy-brown, leathery-skinned fruit that get to about 10cm in diameter. Fruit is edible and mainly used for culinary purposes. Partially self-fertile with higher yields being acheived when planted along side another variety. Prefers to be grown in full sun where soils are fertile, reasonably moist and free-draining. Prune back and open up during winter. Suitable for planting out to create hedges.
