A vigorous, upright growing, native tree that is a natural hybrid between a Northern Rata and a Pohutukawa. It has dark green foliage and produces clusters of rich scarlet flowers during December and January. Thrives in full sun in most types of dry soil that are free-draining. Hardy to coastal conditions and exposed locations, only tolerates light to moderate frosts. Protect from frost when young. Evergreen.
On average, they grow to about 5m x 3m in 10 years.
