Betula lenta, Sweet Birch - Pb6.5

Also known as Sweet Birch, Cherry Birch and Mahogany Birch. When the young twigs are scraped, They have a very strong scent of wintergreen and was once used in the commercial production of wintergreen oil. The bark resembles that of black cherry, smooth and dark red in colour on young trees, but are almost black with loose, curled plates on older trees.
